Freedom

FreedomI started reading Jonathan Franzen’s Freedom this past weekend. I decided to see what they hype was all about. NYT called it a masterpiece and Oprah & Her Giant Head picked him for her goofy bookclub.

So far I’m only about 100 pages in but can say that it’s very good. At least.

“People were standing on the roof of a nearby building saying, ‘Get out, get out!’ But I was in another world. They killed my son and I was looking at his brain.”

This’ll be my last. Another on the short list of greatest hip hop songs ever!

Part 2 of the series

Time for some west coast love. Before Ice Cube was in crappy family movies and making wholesome commercials for shitty TBS shows he’s producing, he was a hip hop heavyweight.

Cube went through many (sometimes subtle) changes in style through out his career. Here, he’s at his peak before he became a cartoonish gangster with WC and all that “Thug” shit.

Ps

This video was part one of a two video series. I’ll post the second next.

Pps

It’s kinda depressing younger people will remember Ice Cube only from crap like Are We There Yet

Playground legends at their best.

The Lords of Underground had three major hits, this was their best.

Blahzay Blahzay with one of hip hop’s most popular refrains: when the east is in the house - oh my God - Danger!

Souls of Mischief from the legendary Hieroglyphics crew— by far their biggest hit
